Update, JAN. 25, 3:55 P.M.: The Orange County coroner changed its press release today to state that Chau "was found next to a parking structure." The original injury description, the coroner stated that he "jumped from a parking structure." The investigation is still ongoing.
Students found the students on a road near the Social Science Parking Structure at 12:18 a.m. on January 22.
Chau, a freshman from UC San Diego, was visiting a friend here at UCI.
According to UCI Spokesperson Cathy Lawhon, "the preliminary determination is that it was a suicide".
Chau died at the scene.
